The primary goal of The HealthCare Foundation for Orange County is to improve the health of underserved women and children in central Orange County. Specifically, we fund projects, programs, collaborative initiatives that do one or more of the following:
  • Empower parents and caregivers with information and support to assure family health
  • Bring culturally relevant information and services to communities

Geographic Area of Focus

Grants are limited to applicants having programs operating within the Foundation’s primary service area of Santa Ana, Tustin, Orange, and Anaheim, or which otherwise serve populations previously served by United Western Medical Center’s (UWMC) hospitals.

To qualify for a grant, your organization must be either a community-based or nonprofit hospital 501(c) (3) nonprofit organization. We highly encourage collaboration between hospitals and community-based organizations (CBOs).

Funds for our annual grant making activities draw on the proceeds of the sale of United Western Medical Centers to a nonprofit hospital and are intended to continue the charitable legacy of United Western Medical Centers and their nonprofit community partners in central Orange County. The Attorney General mandated the following restrictions on the legacy funds:

  • 82% of funds will be restricted to 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations operating a general nonprofit acute care hospital licensed by the State of California offering services with the Foundation’s mission and geographic area. We encourage public agencies and community organizations to apply in partnership with such hospitals.
  • 18% of funds are unrestricted and can be awarded to CBOs or collaborative efforts addressing identified health priorities consistent with the Foundation’s mission and geographic area.
